What are the eviction notice requirements in Minneapolis?
Minneapolis requires a landlord to give 30 days' written notice before filing an eviction action for nonpayment of rent — double Minnesota's statewide 14-day requirement (§ 244.2060, in force since March 1, 2025). The City Council twice moved during 2026 to extend the period further, to 60 days and then to 45, and both were vetoed with no successful override, so 30 days remains the operative figure. Minneapolis does NOT have a general just-cause eviction ordinance — despite repeated proposals, none has been enacted, and summaries claiming otherwise are wrong.
