What is the security deposit limit in Nevada?
Under NRS 118A.242, a landlord may not demand or receive a security deposit, in any form, in an amount or value in excess of 3 months' rent for an unfurnished unit. All deposits, pet deposits, and other prepaid charges—other than an advance payment of the last month's rent—count toward this cap. Landlords must return the security deposit, together with a written itemization of any deductions, within 30 calendar days after the tenant vacates and provides a forwarding address. Failure to comply allows the tenant to recover actual damages plus a $500 civil penalty.
